Overview
PackAway helps you create packing lists for your trips using AI. Your lists are stored on your device and optionally backed up to the cloud if you sign in. We take your privacy seriously. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights.
Short version: Your lists live on your device. We only collect what is strictly necessary to make the AI and cloud sync features work.
What We Collect
Information you provide
- Trip details — destination, travel dates, number of travelers, trip type
- Packing lists — the items in your lists and whether they are checked
- Account information — if you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email address, and profile photo from Google
Information collected automatically
- Device identifier — an anonymous ID used to enforce fair usage limits on AI list generation. This is never linked to your identity.
- Crash reports — if the app crashes, we collect technical information about the crash via Firebase Crashlytics to help us fix bugs. This does not include your personal data or trip content.
- Analytics events — basic usage events such as "trip created" or "list generated" to understand how the app is used. These are anonymous and aggregated.
Data we do NOT collect
- We do not collect your precise location
- We do not access your contacts, camera, or microphone
- We do not sell your data to anyone, ever
- We do not serve ads

AI List Generation
When you create a trip, your destination, travel dates, trip type, and number of travelers are sent to our server to generate a packing list using Claude AI (by Anthropic). We do not send your existing list contents or personal account information to generate lists. Anthropic's privacy policy applies to this processing — see anthropic.com/privacy.
Cloud Sync (Paid Feature)
If you purchase PackAway and sign in, your trips, lists, and packing items are stored in Firebase Firestore (by Google) to enable sync across your devices. Google's privacy policy applies to this storage — see firebase.google.com/support/privacy.
If you do not sign in, all your data stays on your device only.
Data Storage & Security
- Local data is stored in a SQLite database on your device
- Cloud data is stored in Firebase Firestore with industry-standard security
- We use Firebase Crashlytics for crash reporting
- Your purchase status is stored both on your device and in your Firebase account to allow recovery after reinstall
Data Retention
- If you delete the app, local data is deleted with it
- If you have a cloud account and want your data deleted, contact us and we will delete your Firestore data within 30 days
- Anonymous analytics and crash data is retained for up to 12 months
Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Access — ask us what data we hold about you
- Delete — request deletion of your account and associated data
- Export — your packing lists can be exported as PDF at any time

Children's Privacy
PackAway is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13. If we discover that a child under 13 has provided personal data, we will immediately delete it.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. We will notify you of any significant changes by updating the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
